Away: Journey to the Unexpected

Away is such a refreshing breath of fresh air. Gorgeous, tight, and fun, this is an extremely vibrant, upbeat, challenging, and lighthearted take on the FPS genre. The gameplay is tight and responsive, with the ability to recruit and switch between various characters, each with unique abilities, adding depth to this rogue like game. The graphics are a great blend of colorful 3D worlds coupled with almost Akira Toriyama-esq 2D sprite inhabitants. Very easy on the eyes. The sound almost reminds me of a Sega Saturn or PS1 style arrangement, with catchy tunes coupled with solid effects. Overall, this game is such a striking change from the norm today that I can't help but love it. Recommended!

The style and people in this game have a very unique feel. The companion aspect is done very well with everyone having a different visual perspective. The combat albeit simple carries weight. It is rogue like so you will definately die often, but it will level you up making a big difference. I look forward to more from this breath of fresh air of a game.

Away: Journey to the Unexpected was a fantastic little gem of a game! Everything from the dialogue, the art style and the party system really made it an enjoyable experience! A First Person Rogue Lite game that the powers you recieve (In lieu of the almighty stick) are based solely on the friends that you make on the current run (you may have up to 3). Levels are quick and as you gain experience become completely skipable and each level contains a different batch of NPC's that you may recruit in the level. The path is semi open and you can take different paths the more friends you recruit in search of your parents. The game is a short playthrough (8 - 10 hours for 100%) but was a welcomed breath of fresh air for this gamer! My only complaint being that $15 is a pretty hefty price for such a short game, pick it up when it pops in a sale though!

I had fun, but holy cow this game is small. Four tiny little areas for you to run around in, and that's it. Pretty easy for a roguelite as well, and btw I normally hate roguelites but this one was okay. I 100%'d the game in about 3 hours without even getting the achievement for dying 4 times. Definitely get this on sale for about $4.

Nice game but the depth perception takes a while to get used to. I hope theres a part 2 in the future.
