Detective Di: The Silk Rose Murders

TL;DR - A worthy addition to point and clicks, with a great story, a loveable setting and above average writing. If you can get this on a sale then you're practically stealing this title. As someone who hasn't played many point and click games, this particular title (along with Thimbleweed Park and the Monkey Island series) has opened my eyes to a forgotten (by many) genre of games. A classic point and click title offering intuitive puzzles, deep character building and a wonderful story with twists and turns. I experienced no issues at all during my playthrough except for 2 typos and my character going to the wrong side of a low wall or fence, despite where I clicked. None of these were game-breaking. If you enjoy point and clicks, or you simply want an enjoyable murder mystery game, I implore you to give this title a shot. I picked this title up on sale for around 3 USD and have enjoyed it enough that purchasing at that price made me feel guilty. I hope to see a second title.

The best point and click game I've played in years. Very intriging storyline taking place in ancient China, you play as a renowned detective tasked with putting together the necessary pieces to solving mysterious murders. I'm very surprised this game never got the recognition it deserves. Very entertaining, beautiful music, and cool retro design. Everything I wanted in a point and click, murder, mystery and adventure. Overall, I'm very impressed. 10/10

Good point and click and puzzles. Old school . Just lag time between scenes.

Completed. There's 10 achievements for 1,000 G.

Detective Di feels like a game you might find in 1994 by an off brand PC gaming developer. The positives are it looks good and I enjoyed the story. It's also a pretty unique setting taking place in 3 Kingdoms Era China. My problems with the game were that it felt dated. Advancements in the genre seen in Dadelic point and clicks or Thimbleweed Park that should be here are missing. You have to move your pointer to the bottom left of screen to access your items rather than assign that to one of the many unused controller buttons. There are 4 chapters and in each chapter you lose all items. There is maybe 20-30 items total and many don't do anything. So the point and click aspect is pretty limited. There is 3 puzzles 2 of which have red herrings to throw the player off that make them WAY too hard and it feels cheap. The game lasts 5-6 hours and the $13 asking price is way too much compared to others you can get for $10. It's overall ok but wait for a sale.
