Echoes of the Fey: The Fox's Trail

I was pleasantly surprised with this title. Visual novels are all but nonexistent on X1. This is partially voiced in English, also a rarity. Beside the standard dialogue choices you can choose your path quite literally. The story is a well executed mystery with a fantasy setting and intriguing characters. Not much to criticize. except no auto read and the inconsistencies in dialogue being voiced. Sometimes a conversation is fully voiced, but too often only one character is fully voiced. And then sometimes all characters are only partially voiced in the same conversation! That's just a distraction from a lovingly illustrated VN.

If you like narrative games and fantasy stories you should give this game a chance. The story is thoughtful and the art style is unique.

There's more story and worldbuilding in this 4-6 hour game than many five times its length. I wanted to try a visual novel style game and this was surprisingly more than expected, reminding me of some of my fav adventure games just without all the puzzles. It is mostly dialogue and choices but there is a town map to get around giving you more direct control over the order of events and exploration. Somewhere between Telltale and a classic VN, with a fantastic story. I really really want more.

I was surprised by how much I ended up enjoying this. But when is episode 2 going to be released?

Bugged beyond belief
