To save their world from an alien threat, two proud races must set aside their differences and come together... literally. Embers of Mirrim is an adventure-platformer featuring a mystical creature with the ability to split into light and dark embers, each independently controlled by the analog sticks.
This game took me back to the days of getting frustrated playing the latest releases from Psygnosis on my friend's Amiga computer. The major difference is that this game, like many nowadays, is quite generous when it comes to helping a player complete the game.
The major mechanic of the game is being able (and required) to split your character in two "embers", with each being controlled by a thumbstick. I soon realized how bad I am at independent movement; this was the biggest challenge of the game for me.
The story is told wordlessly, with cut scenes popping up throughout the game, while great landscapes and character designs are always present. The music is nice and quite understated at times, much like Agony, another Psygnosis favorite.
While I was able to earn all achievements on Hard within 5 hours, I can easily recommend this game for old school game enthusiasts, especially if it's on sale.
Bonus: Take the Psygnosis challenge, and try to beat it dying less than 3 times!
