Fort Triumph
All in! Games · Action & adventure · Role playing · Strategy
A strategy game combining the turn-based combat of XCOM with the world exploration of HOMM. Build towns, collect artifacts, improve your heroes, and influence your tactical surroundings using physics!
I love TBS games. They are my favorite genre. That said, this game fits that bill nicely but several things detract from the fun and add a level of frustration that just breaks this game.
1. Generic Character models - this made for confusing fights, as multiple units of the same type look identical. Even NPC's/enemies.
2. No mid-battle saves - Can't finish the fight in one sitting? Sorry. Start it all over again. Which brings up...
3. No quick resume feature - Don't hit that 'home' button! You will have to restart the game (bye bye, mission progress).
4. The game physics and environmental damage. While being able to destroy cover is handy, having several of your characters disabled by one kick because of a chain reaction that knocks over multiple objects SUCKS. You're almost better off without taking cover at all.
If you can overcome, ignore, or exploit these shortcomings, there's still a decent game hiding in there. I just personally prefer a more straightforward strategic experience

Ai spam.
Ai hero spam, ai has limitless resources for army generation on normal setting. Monsters have grown stronger includes the ai.
Choke point around town proved ai spam. :(

Flawed but Fun
Good game, but needs more information for buff/debuff icons in battle. A glossary would really help.

Needs a glossary
Gameplay is fun. Banter is funny at times. Balance feels sloppy but seems to hold up. Controls are not great (skipping full turns by a single press of a button). Still could be a 5/5 for the price but the thing that kills it is the lack of a glossary and popup explanations.
Now heres the rant. Heros show the symbols of the traits before you buy them... But doesnt give you an explanation until after you buy them. Symbols are everywhere but no way to 'look' at them. Your left guessing or trying to remember what they mean. Getting afflictions all day and your running circles trying to figure out how to cure it before it kills you. The amount of heros that died from standing to close to a burning fence and dies many rounds later because my HERO doesnt know water beats fire makes me sad.
