Gloomhaven Mercenaries Edition

Held my breath and bought on blind faith based on previous good times with the pc version and happy to report it runs really well. Be warned: This is not a quick, easy to learn board game. It takes a lot of hours to understand the concepts and mechanics here and it can be extremely unforgiving. Grab a beer, start with the tutorials and allow yourself time to fail and be confused...Eventually if you stick with it, you'll open up hours and hours of fun and interesting rpg goodness.

It plays exactly like the board game minus the hour of setup, takedown, hundreds of tokens, and novel of rules to memorize. It's infuriating sometimes, but getting the perfect combo always feels amazing. Tons of classes to unlock, lots of enemy types, a decent story, and enough tactical choices to make you feel like you're playing 3d chess. It's the ultimate strategist's game. If you like to plan your moves well in advance and don't need a rapid pace, you can't go wrong with this.

I played at launch, when JotL released, and now in 2026. All campaign breaking bugs have been patched. I play on a launch original Series X and don't have any major performance issues, with the exception of big AoE skills and a high number of summons or enemy spawns. Genuinely an amazing game, with a unfortunate bumpy ride for the digital version. Don't see why others claim it crashes, I only experienced that in the first couple patch versions. Hope the digital version of Frosthaven still gets released and has a much smoother launch.

Love the board game. Really like pc version. This has done a great job so far! Controller port is intuative. Not sure how I feel how JOTL dlc not being its own campaign. For new or interested players....it is tough, unforgiving, and requires a lot of investment before things click........but is worth it!!!

The new updates fixed alot of bugs, crashes, and save wipes. I have experienced a save wipe in the past when retireing multiple characters at once but that seems to be fixed now. There is a few bugs still in the game like when you level up multiple characters at once when getting new cards. There is also an issue when selecting actions while playing multiplayer that restarting (not reloading) the game will fix. After these last few updates I feel this game is worth its price now.
