Mighty No. 9

This game just feels cheap. The visuals, characters, voices, and plot are all of incredibly poor quality. Unlike other retro games MN9 tries (and fails) to emulate, MN9 does not cater to a variety of play styles. It instead forces player into a speed run mentality and is quick to punish anyone who falls behind. If this is the spiritual successor to Mega Man we at least know why Capcom wouldn't let Inafune continue the series... This game isn't good.

This could have at least been an OK megaman-like but it has one huge issue. The dash-absorb mechanic. They tried to differentiate it from megaman by having a mechanic that lets you dash into near-dead enemies to absorb them and fill a meter that the player uses for abilities. All bosses require the dash to lock in damage and prevent healing. This causes the player to have to be close to the boss constantly so you can dash when needed. This sucks because attacks are flying all over or certain bosses move WAY far away, so you're pretty often the bosses gain 1/4 of their health back or you're just eating attacks on purpose to make progress. Even outside of bosses, you're constantly dashing into trouble or falling slightly short and hurting yourself on the enemy. It's SO mandatory of a mechanic that it turns otherwise OK action into annoying tedium. It's not even "so bad it's good." This game feels having a birthday party with only your parents while suffering intense hemorrhoids.

The story was ok and the gameplay actually quit fun. Even though at some parts the DLC was better. I can never get the online multiplayer to work and that was what I wanted most. The voice acting is terrible and the dialogue is boring. I want to love but I think it is just meh. I think you should just take the reviews with a grain of salt.

This game has the following pros: a combo system + grade ranking system that adds replayability, fun boss battles, cool game mechanics such as the ledge climbing and dashing (you can dash downwards as well), & unique rexelection moves (abilities stolen from bosses). Oh, I almost left out the challenge mode. The small cons that I have with this game are: the load times are long at certain moments, some deaths are unfair (Pyrogen with his exploding grab) and the dialogue is SLOWWWW & CHEEEEEEEESY. Overall, the game was very enjoyable & doesn't deserve all the mainstream hate it got. Then again, I've only played it on the Xbox One, not on the other 9 platforms. The game is also priced at $19.99, which is a very modest price. This would've been a different story had it been priced a full $60

This game is decent enough, but fails to live up to it's claims to be *Spirital Successor to Megaman*. It's a retro 2D platformer that focuses too much on speed runs and it's energy gathering mechanics and some how forgets it's supposed to be a Megaman game. If you live to replay a game just to beat your best time, you will love this. If that's not your thing, wait until it's on sale to add this game to your XB1 Megaman collection.
