Smoke and Sacrifice

The overall game is pretty good. Scavange, build, repair, repeat. Its an incremental progression type game, meaning that you have to farm the recent area for materials until you can survive further on in the map. All of this, even the story is executed very nicely. The difficulty if you adventure unprepared can be deadly, with even the first enemy dealing 25% health or more. The survial raises the stakes when the fog rolls in, hope you been catching lots of fire flies to keep that latern lit or its game over. With save point so sparse the last thing you want to do is respawn across the map. There is a fast travel system but they appear right next to a save so it feels counter productive. All of this makes for a great survival game experience, except for one oversight. The controls. Right off the bat your character moves like the are stuck in the mud, cant dodge until a half second after attacking, making boss fights more tedious, cant pick up items while moving.

Smoke and Sacrifice is a challenging survival adventure game with rpg gameplay features, it has been compared to Don't Starve, and Flame in the Flood games it also has some of Below gameplay features. There is action combat ,crafting , and recipes to learn as you learn to survive in the underground world which is challenging when the darkness comes. The graphics, and art style are well done and have a unique anime look to them. The storyline is very good and keeps you engaged as you journey through the underworld searching for the truth of what happen to your son Lio. The underworld is a large world with a variety of unique areas to explore each new area presents you with new challenges, and rewards, these areas can be transversed with fast travel tubes. If you liked the survival games mentioned above you will like playing this game just learn to save often, and get info from the residents in the underworld your key to survival.

Don't listen to the negative reviews, this game will stick with you.

Really COULD have been a fun retro survival type game. Storyline is great. The ABSOLUTE LACK OF SAVE POINTS except every HOUR or so of gameplay is gamebreaking IMO. People have lives and don't want to traverse halfway across the entire gameworld everytime they have something to do in the real world and need to save. And god forbid something way beyond your level kills you because you couldn't see it until it's already on you because your field of view is too small.........when that happens you get to waste another 20-30 minutes gathering/ looting/opening chests you ALREADY opened because, yet again, not enough save points. Funny how one small(but HUGE) oversight can ruin a game like this. And so now it is added to the library of mostly broken trash that we all know as Game Pass. Sad to see the quality of games us gamers receive these days in exchange for our hard-earned money. SMH
