Sublevel Zero Redux

Sub Level Zero is the kind of Corridor Shooter that reminds FPS gamers of the allure of vehicular First Person Action: Its graphics highlight some wonderful yet constricting corridors that invite as much tactics as they do danger. The downside to this is the game's overuse of blooming light effects which frequently hides enemies and enemy bullets with no option to change it (and no option to turn off controller vibration, either). While the inclusion of a well-detailed pause screen map is comforting, there is a glitch to watch out for in the red booby-trap chests: Even after destroying every summoned enemy, sometimes the chest won't register your victory and you'll be stuck in the room with only the quit button to escape from. The oddly romantic soundtrack and shoddy Minecraftian elemental graphics are a little discouraging, but the double-weapons, inventory managing and randomly generated maps bundle the game up in a comfortable layer of clever fighting, cautious exploration and fun.

This is definitely a fun game that's worth the asking price. Cool, colorful graphics, and great (but not perfect) controls. I only wish it had a bit more depth in terms of story and 4 randomized corridor levels. I'd love to see what these guys can do with a sequel! 👍

awesome retro 90,s cyber graphics like blood dragon. simple and fun crafting. 20$ a little steep for rougue title but worth it. Ship a little clumsy wish had more dodge mechanic than a slow roll. clearly not flawless but absolute blast and unique style/mechanics bumps up from 3 to 5 stars. im being generous but. always rate fun over polished or perfection.

Not worthy of your Descent or Foresaken nostalgia. Not even close. The randomly generated levels every time you die ruin the satisfaction of exploration. But the real deal breakers are the interactions with enemies. The robot blobs you fight look not just uninspired but can actually be mistaken for lights on the wall, or simply the wall itself. The slow cramped combat is made worse by enemy fire blends in with the environment. The graphics lack whatever qualities are needed to make their projectiles pop or even stand out. You'll see what again looks like a light on a wall and move to the side only to discover it was actually a laser that was about to hit you. Instead of wasting your time with this, spend that time figuring out a way to play Descent instead. Cheers
