The game could be a lot of fun; if there was a way to save your progress. I wish I had known prior to purchasing. That sucked the buzz right out of my high. The game itself is kool. The color choice isnt too harsh. Also, I like how fast the power/Iives increase with every power up. Then comes the no saves issue. That by itself, is a deal breaker for me. The thing is, Im not very good at this style of arcade game and require save points in order to progress. So, what that translates to is, if I were better, I'd rate it higher.

Nephenthesys is a nice little shoot'em up game. I've played harder shoot'em ups than this but it still offers a challenge. It has easy to use controls and of the five stages and bosses, four and five will offer the most resistance with the starter ships until the better ones are unlocked. All ships have a different attack and special attack if enough powerups are collected to deploy it. Ship health and weapon power walk hand in hand with powerup pickups. The health bar is four hits big but everytime you grab a powerup, it replenishes a hit bar along with providing a stronger attack. Powerups even bounce around the screen until grabbed or their disappear timer runs out. This is a nice touch for a shoot'em up. If you do end up in trouble with beating the game, do what it takes to unlock the Purple Needle ship. Then use that to unlock the Orange Barrage. The homing shots make it so much easier. Plus, there's an easy 3,000gs to get. I had a good time overall with this game.

this game is rough in terms of bland backgrounds, no checkpoints, and 5 levels. yes, its only 6 bucks, but can find better elsewhere.
