WRC 8 FIA World Rally Championship Xbox One

I love rally racing, so buy this every year. I got the deluxe but won't let me review. As for WRC8, this years version is packed full. Every location, every team, every car, every driver. Including WRC, 2, and junior. Also thinking 12 classic cars. Looks great, sounds great, plays fun with a bunch of modes like career, season, quick, school, free play, challenges, and MP. But every year, pretty much every game Bigben does, cars handle badly, and gamepad controls are terrible. You always have to adjust setting with trial and error, and they never feel smooth, just manageable. I been telling Bigben this for years, they never listen. Great game if you love rally racing, otherwise don't bother. JMO. NOTE: Added a star, the new career mode is fantastic. Really deep and detailed, definitely for the diehard rally fan. And if not your thing, season mode lets you play full seasons without all the management. Best in series, just those two issues above.

I wanted to like this game, I really did. The career mode seemed like it'd be engaging, and there looks to be a lot of content, game modes, etc. It could be the best rally game ever made, but I'll never know because I can't seem to find a device that satisfactorily controls my car. First, I tried with a gamepad. The cars somehow manage to be both twitchy and sluggish at the same time, like there's some kind of weird baked-in speed sensitivity setting that we can't adjust or deactivate. I thought surely things must be better with a wheel. I use a Fanatec GT2 w a DriveHub, which works great w other games including the Dirt series, Loeb Rally Evo, etc. With WRC8, I got no force feedback at all. The game showed it recognized my wheel, and responded to all inputs, I just couldn't get any FFB no matter what. Maybe you'll have better luck with your wheel, or maybe you won't mind the strange pad controls. Or maybe you'll uninstall this and go back to Dirt like I did.

Maybe the game is playable with a steering wheel controller. Maybe there is a magical combination of settings that makes playing with a standard controller more feasible. Feasible but probably never good. By default it seems to be extraordinarily twitchy in slight curves and straights while being unresponsive in sharp turns.
