Hell is Us
Nacon · Action & adventure
If war is the closest we get to hell on earth, it's because Earth harbours the worst of demons: humankind. In an isolated country ravaged by infighting, discover the secrets of your past and deal with the repercussions of a mysterious calamity.
The game is fun, yet odd. It isn't a souls-like and it isn't ametroidvania. It's not real open world either. Some areas are larger than others, and combat is fun, granted I'm not really struggling. You can kill enemies fairly quickly. You don't level up, or allocate skill points. You instead level up your weapons through battle. The story is unique and interesting to me and there is a lot of lore to learn. I must warn people that there is A LOT of PUZZLES in this game. I personally don't care for puzzles, but these aren't super difficult. There is also a lot of backtracking to open new areas later on with newly acquired keys or codes, just about EVERY door or chest needs a key or code to open. There are no "free" chests in this game. There is also NO MAP or guide holding your hand either. You must think, remember, and observe everything. It is a bit annoying, but overall I'm enjoying the game.

Critical Thinker
First point, there is a lot of memorizing (or pen and paper), running back and forth between areas multiple times, creative puzzles requiring outside the box thinking, and storytelling. A lot of attention is needed in the dialogue, letters, recordings, and other findings if you want to successfully complete everything. Next point, combat is very repetitive. I ran the entire game with one set of weapons, but there are a few different types to try out. You can upgrade the weapons as well as apply three perks. You're equiped with a sidekick as well that provides up to four different supports. There are a few consumables that will help you. Ironically, I only needed to use consumables at the very beginning and very end of the game. It took 37 hours for me to complete. The ending cutscenes were nice twists. Finally, performance was pretty good. One crash, one odd ladder traversal, and some minor graphics and audio glitchs. Overall, I enjoyed this game. Not everyones cup of tea though.

When creative writers shine!
This is an odd game in that its unique setting and lore makes you want to know more about Hadea. I find that so many new games are just the retelling of well wore ideas. This, like Expedition 33, are so creative in the story and setting they craft. The combat and cutscenes aren't grand, but this whole game was enjoyable.
