South of Midnight Weaver's Edition

Played through to the end and looking foreward to going through it again for the collectables. The environments are on par with Psychonauts 2. Very vivid and imaginative. The protagonist makes some questionable choices, but she's young with a chip on her shoulder so I managed to suspend disbelief. Combat fell a bit flat for me personally. Target lock negatively impacts your movement and it didn't feel right from start to finish. Platforming is a bit off as well at times. I had trouble getting onto certain ledges and sometimes Hazel would float on surfaces if I came in at a weird angle. What really kept me playing was the atmosphere and art direction. Especially the swamp towards the end of the game. Overall it's visually stunning but played it safe with combat/platforming mechanics. I still enjoyed my time with it though.

I grew up playing story games on Playstation, PS2, etc. and feel like that genre of game has been left in the past. This game, brings it back in spectacular fashion. The visuals, characters, models, bosses, and art are stunning, the music accompanying boss fights is fantastic, and the acting and story are phenomenal. The UI is clean and easy to navigate and the traits/upgrades system is simple in a good way (shorter story-focused game). The only [sensible] complaints are regarding the combat, which I admit is fairly simplistic at its core but you can get a bit creative with it (but don't use target locking). Overall a fantastic story game, like playing through a unique and captivating movie. 5/5, make more games like this.

I see a lot of complaints about how short it is. If I paid full price I might be upset about that, but for a GP game that I can beat in 7 hours, I had a great time with it. I'm a busy dad, sometimes a game I can beat in the week is great.

My husband and I played through this game together recently, and I have to say it is amazing. There are moments in the story that are just truly heartbreaking, but it's so worth it. The art style is absolutely beautiful. The music is done well, the story is told well, and the game is genuinely just fun.

This has superb art, music, and towards the last third it's a really solid 9 game. You need to go past the intro on gameplay, then it's a beaut.
