Owlboy

Owlboy is a fantastic 2D adventure game with tons of charm to spare. This game is clearly a labor of love by the developers. Beautiful 2D artwork with nice animation, great music and accompanying effects, tight controls.. the only problem I have is that it's one of those games where I keep telling myself I'll just reach the next spot or just do one more thing but then end up captivated again. Many "AAA" games could learn a thing or two from this gem. Highly recommended.

It may have taken nearly 10 years to develop Owlboy, but wow did it pay off! If you like old school style games with great stories, amazing action, and fun puzzles & platforming, you must play this game.

This is another game with rave reviews by people who didnt really like the game. Game is linear, and less than 50% make it to chapter 2. Reviews arent wrong. Art is great, music great, story and gameplay is unique. So why do most people stop so soon? 1) too linear: not being able to back up means exploring is taken away until almost to the end. Also, why collect coins if you cant cash them in? 2) when its dull, it drags. Too easy for 80%, and not being able to fully explore makes flying not as fun. 3) when its hard, its really hard. So, 80% of the time its very slow, easy, try not to passout. Then BAM, when its hard it becomes a real challenge. I liked these harder bits, but ican see from the 20% drop from folx who beat the first boss to the folx who stayed to see the rest, the difficulty spike stopped a lot of folx. Glad i played, good game, but glad i got on sale.

Owlboy Its ripe with character and creativity. Refreshing mechanics and a lot of courage. To release such a good platform title in 2018 and never compromise your vision is inspiring. Great visual art style and incredible soundtrack alone will draw you into the world of Owlboy

If the phrase "story driven metroidvania" gets your attention, then purchase Owlboy immediately. It is a beautiful, multilayered experience and is about as unique as a game can get. One thing that I really like about it, besides literally everything else, is that it is just the right level of challenging to allow the player to properly enjoy the story. It may seem like a small nuance, but it can make or break a game. The term "modern classic" is beyond overused, but Owlboy is one of the few titles that justify it.
