Rise of the Third Power

I buy a lot of video games, too many in fact, but I rarely review them. ROTTP has made enough of an impression that I feel the developers deserve a shout-out. The game is much above average compared to its peers, such as the likes of the myriad of Kemco RPGs available. It isn't often I get emotionally invested in all the characters, but is the level of care put into their writing. Speaking of which, the writing is very humorous at times. Overall a fantastic game worthy of your time.

Rise scratches an itch so few new games do for me. It has characters that can flourish in the right battle scenarios, and each feels different from the others. The music was okay, if a bit repetative. The dialog is hit or miss but manages to be decent enough overall to not be distracting. The story was enough to be engaging and even manages to throw in a few interestting surprises. Pretty good length, took me just under 50 hours. It's not a GREAT game but it is competent enough to be worth yyour money and time.

Look. Chances are, you’re skeptical about the game. Whether it’s good or not, and whether it’s worth the buy or download. Personally, I’ve never written a review, or rated a game. However, THIS game right here. THIS one, deserves every bit of 5*. This is my first, and likely ONLY time doing this. If you’re not convinced yet, let me tell you why I think it’s worth it. Just a few things. 1.) The dialogue, and writing. 2.) Character development. 3.) Uncanny and actually funny, enjoyable humor. 4.) Stunning combat visuals for a retro style game. {I play on Pixel perfect setting}. What is this, 5?) The story is wonderful. It doesn’t need plot armor bull hockey. It’s actually step by step, cause and effect, easy to follow and easy to understand. So all of that is put simply. If you’re not convinced by now, all I can do is throw a “Just do it” Shia labooooofman at you and pray you buy this game.

This game caught my eye and I decided to wait to buy it until some reviews started coming in. I have to say, man this is just like a walk down memory lane! Not only has this game found a way to exude the essence of the 90s JRPG, but it has improved on the formula as well. The menus are streamlined and easy to navigate, the dialog is hilarious and entertaining, the characters are well developed and I have been hooked since the first couple of minutes and I'm now 4 hours in. This game is certainly worth the asking price. I hope to see more from this developer in the future, the only thing I can complain about is sometimes I can't see the passages from one screen to the next in dungeons as it's hard to differentiate them from the regular walls at times. No big deal though. If you love classic FF, Chrono Triger, even Zelda, then go for it.
