SENSEs: Midnight

Throwback to old school RE/silent hill types with a heavy fatal frame influence...on a budget features include:: - Optional controls ("tank" or modern) they will still require some getting used to -a kind of annoying chat feed that pops up frequently, but you can just skim through -impractical running shoes -Puzzles puzzles puzzles -bit of jank -fixed camera that some wont like tbh -limited inventory...you're gonna have to remember where you set stuff down -and the real reason you want this 😉

Senses: Midnight is a sequel of sorts to Sense: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story. Between Dixon's review and the game store description, you get the gist of how this game will play. As a fan of the first game, and the older games this title draws inspiration from, I thought Senses: Midnight did a pretty impressive job delivering an as advertised experience. While the game is rough around the edges, with a little jank here and there, the core gameplay is sound. I also appreciate the devs trying something new and making Senses: Midnight a 3D game, which differs from the 2.5D style of its predecessor. My hat's off to this indie dev team. I have paid through the nose for so called "AAA" games in the past, only to receive broken, buggy, dumpster fires. Fortunately, that's not the case here. For a fraction of the price, there's some bouncy, creepy, and nostalgic fun to be had here.

I enjoyed the first game in the series (no story connection) but this one is an improvement in every way. It plays like Fatal Frame in a cyberpunk future, and as someone who grew up playing FF2 and FF3, this couldn't be better. Some might look at the main character's design as unnecessarily risque, but this tracks 100% with the way female characters were portrayed in the era it calls back to. Plus, if you've got it, nothing wrong with taking pride in your appearance. 😉

Classic style "fixed" camera indy psychological supernatural survival horror with jiggle physics. Easy and quick 1000gs, unlockable costumes, enemy variety, puzzles, scares, humor, side quests, and TIG OL' BITTIES, make this a decent play for fans of Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Fatal Frame, just with strictly defensive methods of survival (think daggers and stun guns in REmake) and a few simple hiding mechanics.
