Tempest 4000

Controls are laggy, slidey garbage. Uneven gamerscore. Button mapping is awkward. As others have noted, screen fills with colorful nonsense that obscures gameplay. We're lured in with Tempest 2000 nostalgia and quickly realize that it's an INCREDIBLY overpriced, web browser quality frustrating waste of time and money. Not at all what it purports to be. Shameful.

A person has to really like Tempest to enjoy this 4000 version a lot yet such a person is gonna be pissed at it. Biggest (but not only) issue is the horrible way claw (your ship) movement changed, adding animation like inertia. Skilled players will hate it (rest of us highly annoyed). Think Mario's running movement in original Super Mario Bros., doesn't move does NOT stop on a dime but rather like Mario, you'll press the opposite direction when stopping so you don't run on past where you want to be when you let off the stick (no stopping on a dime) & just feels animated, not the snapping crawl. The zones/tubes seem shorter but if not, still need to be longer. Enemies enter the field and get to your side much too fast. Low resolution, at least for many things in the game, making much quite ugly on a big 4K tv. If you can pause your game, I can't figure out how. There's other gripes I have with this too. Even at $15 sale, hard to recommend. I'd pay good money for Tempest 2000 though.

It's great to have Tempest back if you don't own Atari 50. This falls way short of the excellent original PS Tempest X 3. If just a few more tweeks were made on this game, I would give this game 5 stars. But the slippery controls, no button mapping vertually ruin what COULD have been an awesome game like Tempest X 3. You MUST HAVE PRECISION CONTROL on a game like this! I'm so glad I waited for this game to go on sale. $7.00 for a flawed game...not bad.

great Tempest version, but its missing the following Tempest 2000 features: you can't hold down the JUMP Button to keep jumping, can't zoom the camera in closer, or configure the Buttons (JUMP is stuck at Right Trigger). im glad Tempest is back though 🙂👍

Tempest4k is. exactly what i expect from a Jeff Minter Game. And Tempest is just the most enjoyable game for me. trippy graphics, the soundtrack from t2k and pure action fun. feel and play or think and you are dead
