Kholat
IMGN.PRO · Action & adventure
The most terrifying journey of your life set in the beautiful winter scenery of the Ural Mountains. Uncover the horrific mystery behind the Dyatlov Pass Incident. Narrated by the famous Sean Bean and powered by Unreal Engine 4.
Narrated by a great actor. There are no objectives and makes you feel immersed and the game feels genuine. This game requires patients and some slight map reading/land navigation skill. The voice actors were great and their emotions sound real. Your deaths come swift and sometimes feel unfair and will ocassionally frustrate you. You will do alot of walking but this helps you discover new points of interest. Exploration is a must to complete this game so you can uncover the "truth". You will become confused as you try and put all the pieces together you well get lost at some point which adds a feeling of loneliness and hopelessness. I highly recommend this game.

Atmosphere, ambience, & chills.
Kholat shines with its atmosphere as a whole...
It's not littered with cheap scares & jumpy moments. The setting (based on the Dyatlov Pass Incident) & collectables drive the vague direction of the game but that is the beauty...if you were investigating this incident in real life you won't have quest & objective markers in your face guiding you. You have a map (with notable found locations marked) & a compass. Is it hard to use the compass to navigate? Yes. As it would be. It puts an emphasis on remembering landmarks. Some are annoyed by this but it adds to the suspense of being utterly lost & alone.
YOU WILL BE LOST. That's intended.
YOU WILL BE CONFUSED. That's intended.
This is barebones realism at its finest with an amazing unsolved incident driving the story & an ambient, unforgiving, and gorgeous environment that sets up the danger & suspense with constant shivers down your spine because, as the real life incident reinforces, the only thing out there is the unknown.

Oh, my head!
This is a decent game, so far. Very heavy on exploration. A lot of people are griping about the map- here's a hint that will save you time and headaches: The Russian word for North starts with a 'C'.

True story, horror, and Sean Bean ❤❤❤
So I recently watched a movie on this incident called The Devil's Pass by the director of Cliffhanger. While the movie was just dumb horror fun, it did get me interested in the real story (read about it online) so to play a game with its own take on the incident is quite exciting !! PS: Boromir narrates added bonus LOL

Loved it!! Know what kind of game it is first. Tips...
There are more negative reviews then Kholat deserves. First U need to understand this mostly is an explortion game in the most beautiful snowy mountains of Dyatlov pass. Based on a true story. With great voice acting narratives and a few scares. A lot of the game is navigating Ur map & compass. Notes and Camp fires mark themselves on Ur map, use them and landmarks to navigate. The map is not an exact and it doesn't show every little path, just the main ones. With the compass, red always points towards North and black towards South. The coordinates U find on the side of rock R not Ur current location, they tell U where another Note is. After death U'll start from the previously found Note or Camp fire. This is why U should explore an entire area at a time.
With all of that, I found this game to be very enjoyable and not frustrating at all, unlike other reviews I've read..
