Screamer - Digital Deluxe Edition

This game is fire. I'm old enough that I have the original Screamer on CD-ROM. Back then, it was Graffiti's answer to the wildly popular Ridge Racer, with an emphasis on blazing fast speed, tight tracks and a killer soundtrack. This reboot has all of that and then some including a voice acted visual novel storyline accompanied by races, cinematics and tight twin stick controls like Inertial Drift. You can also skip it entirely and hop straight into arcade mode to get right to racing.

Great story, fun and challenging arcade races with innovative mechanics, neon city cyberpunk anime aesthetic. And the music is amazing😎

Awesome arcade racer. Tight controls. Gives new meaning to the term drift stick. Some pretty solid racing tracks. A bit of a learning curve. Especially if you're used to Forza or Grand Turismo. So it can be frustrating at first. But once you get used to the controls it gets pretty intense fast. It reminded me of games like F-Zero Extreme G Racer Blur Split Second Burnout & old Need for speed titles. There is a story mode and the dialogue between races can get annoying but you can skip all of it if you want. But alot of it can also be interesting and amusing so i would recommend not skipping it. Overall I'm impressed. It's been years since anything like this has dropped.

For modern racing game, its good. But we all know how dry this genre has been for the past 15 or so years so that's not saying much. In terms of story, its one of the best I've seen in a racing game. The game itself however...well when people said it was like burnout, Split/Second and older nfs (especially older nfs) I was excited. But I was kinda disappointed when I started playing and found the handling was like NFS Hot pursuit 2010. Cars handle like boats where you have to drift on every turn. Meanwhile the Ai drivers don't have to usually and basically have super grip. So you'll get passed on turns. There's a specific way to drift to minimize this but it'll still happen to a certain degree and is hard to learn if you're not used to drifting in other games. You'll also usually wash out into walls. So if you don't like the hot pursuit handling, I'd recommend not playing this game. It'll get frustrating fast. Other than that tho, it's a decent game.

If you are a fan of early 2000's style racing games this game is for you. Its very addicting. Gameplay 9/10, physics 9/10, story 8/10, graphics 10/10, music 9/10
