Sparklite

Enjoyable gameplay, collectibles, random generated maps, fun boss battles. Fairly short but all around enjoyable. Negatives: No quick resume, cannot save in the middle of a "run", & the coop has the second player use a flying robot who can't do much.

Loved the tight gameplay, pixel art and music. The roguelite mechanics are well balance and only notice a difficulty spike for the last boss' phase 2. I overcame the spike by farming a few rounds for currency in order to improve my abilities, but it felt fun to explore the areas once again. The game lasts about 10 hours and I felt that it didnt overstayed its welcome. As of launch week there are some issues with achievements not unlocking and abilities inventory management by the time you get to end game. Otherwise this is a solid and charming game for those looking for a top down action adventure. UPDATED as of January 2020: Achievements and inventory management issues have been fixed.

Freely roam in an environment that expands as you acquire new gadgets and skills. I will suggest to only QUIT OUT once you beat a titan and are teleported back to the base. Not nearly as a GRINDFEST as comments lead you to believe. Its a rogue-like open world w restricted areas until you acquire the necessary gadget, OR you may be able to grind if you want to do things out of the natural order. A little challenging until you learn the patterns but the combat aspect feels great. A great game to play over the holidays, especially if you can catch a sale. Awesome little game, honestly. I have about 5 hours in and it feels about half done... So a typical quality 8-12 hour indie game for an initial playthrough. Highly recommended!

Not a great co op. The second player controls a boring character.

Sparklite boasts fun gameplay with moderate challenge. Pixel art is gorgeous, mechanics grow in fun ways, and the retro Zelda-esque vibe is nostalgic yet fresh. Characters thus far are entirely forgettable, and if you want deep story, its not here. Sadly, after suffering three crashes before the second boss, I am not interested in continuing. Each crash resulted in me getting booted from the current run and losing progress. Didn't try the co-op mode, but it's always great to see it included. I hope others have a better experience than I did.
