The Letter: A Horror Visual Novel

Absolutely ingrossing story with well-developed characters. It is just as much a drama as it is horror - probably more so. But it's the attachment to the characters that really gives weight to the horror, which becomes more prevalent the further you go. There are QTEs, but they are more like minigames and happen very sparingly. They are all easy enough, except for the first one which feels a bit broken. BUT there is an option to skip them, either altogether or with each individual one you reach. There is more than enough content to justify the price, not only for a single run but replayability too. Many, many branching paths and alternate outcomes. Wonderful soundtrack and superb voice acting. Extras and slightly animated scenes. Horror that draws from The Ring and The Grudge, and does so well. I sometimes leave reviews, but rarely do I feel compelled to right after finishing a game. EDIT: Discovered the "true ending", which honestly kinda defeats player agency. Still good though.

Before I explain, I want to say that I adore this game. Great artwork, voice acting, music, a compelling storyline and interesting characters are just a few reasons as to why this game is awesome! However there are some issues. Sometimes the audio for a voiceline won't play, but that's not a problem. What IS though is occasionally some of my recent save files will be erased after closing the game and running it again! I don't know what causes it exactly once in a while but its frustrating to say the least! I pray this doesn't happen to anyone else, but still a great game.

The voice acting and graphics are good. Some action scenes requiring input were hard at first to figure out. There should be 3x the save slots as there are since the number of decision forks in one playthrough goes into a 4th wraparound, meaning i had to delete over half my saves b4 first completion, requiring unnecessary replay and retracking of decision forks. It made me want the story to end sooner the longer it went on. I rarely use walkthroughs, so i have to track the progression systematically, and the lack of save slots makes it a hassle. Everything else is quality for a visual novel.

It's The Grudge meets The Ring. Beautiful backgrounds, but the character design looked out of place.
