Rue Valley
Owlcat Games · Action & adventure
Rue Valley is a narrative RPG about a man trapped in a time loop, surrounded by a colorful cast with complex emotional stories, each hiding unexpected secrets. Dealing with mental challenges, the main character must rise from the depths, delving into the anomaly to uncover its enigmatic origins.
Solid writing, choices that seem meanigful, and a lovely art (and sound) direction! I have encountered a handful of minor bugs, however, so I can't quite give it a full 5 Stars yet. Nothing too major, just some occasional dialog audio issues and the protagonist having a persistent lack of hair for some reason.
Regardless of any of that, I still think this game was worth playing and look forward to seeing what these devs cook up next!

Still with me, Mister Harrow?
The game is honestly incredible. There's clear inspiration from Disco Elysium, which is my personal favorite game oat. The "Time loop" premise is executed perfectly, at times feeling incredibly repetitive. (which is the point.) The dialouge is voiced, but not in entirety, which would be one of my only gripes if i was forced to nitpick, but other than that i'm having an awesome time, the devs did a great job with this one.

Great Story
A great story that is much deeper and real than the marketing “memes” made it seem, in a good way. And the art style is amazing. I am looking forward to future project from this team.
The one thing I would nitpick is that there were multiple occasions where characters would say something that was not what was shown on screen, but it wasn’t anything too crazy and didn’t take away from my experience.

A tight concept spread too broad
A cRPG with minimal (and I would argue, disingenuously framed) character choices, skills, and progression needs an impactful narrative, compelling story, and realized characters to justify its minimal roleplaying. The narrative could work, but the story (the written scene to scene narration and dialogue) is stretched too thinly. I see a world where this could have been a great 2 hour experience that is instead 10 hours, manufacturing game mechanics that are only executed perfunctory or are abandoned soon after introduction. I think the narrative (and especially the flat characters, player character included) is just not crafted well enough, and rather than tighten scope to polish its flaws to create a stronger story, the scope was widened in hopes those writing flaws are obfuscated by, to be blunt, dishonest time wasting and false gameplay promises. I wouldn't be this bothered if I didn't think there was potential for better work in the future.
