Torment: Tides of Numenera

First off, this game's combat is hilariously bad. I don't think I've played a game whose combat just made me mad more than this game. It really doesn't do anything special and feels kind of like an afterthough. Combat aside though, this game is something truly special. It's more like a really long choose your own adventure book than an actual game. You'll be reading 95% of the playthrough, and sometimes you'll be reading scriptures of text at a time. I played this on a whim and was immediately sucked into a strange, wacky world. I was completely engrossed by the companions you meet and their stories all felt like some of the best in gaming. The writing is subperb, and I haven't played a game yet that can compare to it. The way the skills and your stat pools play into making choices gives a good balance of resource management at certain times when you can't rest. All in all, 4.5. Amazing story that I'll probably think about until I die, but horrendous combat

As some one who played the first game, Torment, i loved how it kept the feeling of being thrown into an unknown world. But there are a few things i must admit that ruin the gameplay. it bothers me when they give you very few slots for your armor. of all body parts to equip armor on, they give you body, cloak, and a bracelet... no gloves, helms, boots etc. on top of that there is zero inventory management. if you wanted to organize your things, you would have to transfer items back and forth between characters in order to fill those empty gaps you created when you used/traded an item. a sort option would easily fix this. In the end it's a good game.

Awesome game so far. Can't wait to explore other paths. I spent 8 hours before I even got into my first battle. If you like to explore a sci fi rpg epic this is it. There are so many different ways to play. Just be ready for a lot of reading, not so much in voice dialogue and cut scenes. Just wish they would bring other games like this to console.

After a few hours, it is clear that Torment: Tides of Numenera lives up to the legacy of the legendary Planescape Torment. Brilliant writing, gripping stories, and challenging, tactical combat await players as they explore the Ninth World. Above all, Torment succeeds triumphantly in providing a reactive story that allows you to play the game your way. A must play for RPG fans. Expect some framerate hiccups and occasional lack of responsiveness with controls. It doesn't detract too much because of the slow and deliberate nature of the game, but is still worth noting.

Tides is an RPG worthy as a sequel to Planescape Torment anyone could ask for. This is a grown up RPG, plenty of reading almost like a graphic novel. Torment doesn't hold your hand. You quest and succeed or fail based on your decisions and actions. Each consequence opens another aspect to the game and another path. This isn't Dragon Age Origins or Diablo. Torment isn't a hack and slash. Most of the game can be completed without conflict. Torment is an excellent RPG that I hope creates a mold for others to come.
