Aggelos
PQube Ltd · Action & adventure · Platformer · Role playing
Step through time and discover a mesmerizing new action-RPG that looks like it was plucked straight out of the 16-bit era, but plays like a modern-day marvel! Bursting with secrets and side-quests, and boasting slick melee combat that any 2D action game would envy, Aggelos is the perfect combination of retro style and modern-day game design.
If you like the Wonder Boy/Monster World games, you will like this game.
While not really a modernization of the genre, it really replicates the authentic feel of the older games and you would think it was a rereleased game from that time if you didn't know any better.
What makes me want to quit playing though is the stupid hard boss fights and how they basically force you to leave the dungeon and backtrack to a town to stock up.

Fantastic
Not sure where the Zelda 2 references are coming from...this is pure Sega/Westone Wonder Boy Monster World series fan service. And it's blanking awesome. I did have some achievements not unlock, and there were some frustrating platforming sections but regardless, a great time. Especially for us old school Master System kids.

Great retro action RPG with flawed controls
The graphics, sound, music, and gameplay are great. With one major exception: There are moves that require multiple button presses that don't always work. The convoluted jump+attack+jump that only works part time makes the second half of the game a chore. The XBox controller has so many unused buttons, why not use them instead? It's a shame because the game was clearly made by someone passionate about making a cool retro game.

Old School feel but it felt incomplete...
Aggelos was a decent game, it was frustrating at times but I still enjoy the retro adventure that it offers. I can't compare this game to the likes of Zelda because it doesn't drive into an deep enough depth to where I can consider this a truth RPG. Zelda 2 adopted a hack and slash style but it still remain a decent linear to the Zelda series. Don't take this the wrong way!!! Aggelos was fun, however, some of in game amenities didnt make this game flush very well. One, Im not quite sure what happen to with the Dark Cloud stage to where the thunder armor was a waste of time to obtain. I pass the level without it. In fact I feel the very way about samurai sword and armor to where I also felt like it was a wasted effort. Two, A shields would have been nice, evading is a pain. The extra 5 point from the bubble is nonexistent. Three, the inventory was simple but i didn't understand why did Lumen key had to take up a spot when it shouldn't.
