Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising

Ultimately a series of fetch quests and grinding materials to get more powerful. Normally id hate this however this game was highly enjoyable in its execution. Its fun overall. Combat is good and its a great looking game. Achievement hunters are looking at around 18-19 hours for 1000 gamerscore.

This game had one major goal, and that was to get you excited for the much larger sequel coming out this year. It was a smart move putting it on game pass when you keep this in mind and I think it did a perfect job at achieving what it wanted. The game starts off fairly slow but really opens up to just being a chill, enjoyable game. Combat is pretty unique for a JRPG although pretty easy most of the time. Most missions come down to being fetch quest but for me, that was really the charm of this game. Grinding away little side quests then experiencing a main story that was actually very well written with plenty of cheesy lines that’ll make you smile. The three main characters are very well made, especially Garoo. While those fetch quests may throw some people away from the game, the last hour or so of it more than made up for it with fantastic story telling that has me very excited for the sequel. Apparently it’ll have a roster of 100+ playable characters which sounds like madness.

While a bulk of the missions are fetch quests and maxing stats is grindy, there's enough charm to look past that and not get stale. Very excited for the next entry!

This can tide us over until Suikoden comes to Xbox

The worst part of this game is that it is just a taste of what is to come. It doesn't take long to complete and it is not turn based like 100 heroes but if you are a fan of the Suikoden series, you will see the potential in this game.
