The Chant

Just finished first playthrough on "balanced" difficulty (Adeptus). The story is decent for what it is. The combat could be considered clunky, but I found it to be charming in a weird way. If I had one complaint about it (and I'm not really saying it's necessarily bad per se) it would be that every enemy telegraphs every attack waaay ahead. I even did a test shot on the highest difficulty and saw that it still happens there as well. (This is for context, not bragging.) It took a few minutes over 6 hours to beat with zero deaths and all but one collectible found. Bear in mind though, there are at least three endings based on your response type when interacting with other characters. Each requires a full playthrough, bringing the game time up to a potential 18 hours. Is it worth $60? I don't think it is, but they aren't asking for that much. They got the price perfect for what this is IMO. A flawed gem is still a gem.

I love The Chant's unique game mechanics. It's refreshing to see developers trying something new. For instance, I really dug the inclusion of two types of dodges. In fact, with the dodges performed with B, and the swinging of weapons done with RT, I even felt a bit of a Dark Souls vibe! The setting was also unique and quite interesting. I was invested and read all the lore pages I found. My one suggestion would be to please add a New Game Plus mode. Let us keep all our upgrades and prism abilities and replay the game from the beginning of the difficulty we beat it at or lower. Then, we can work on finding any lore we missed, maxing out our upgrade wheel, and go for different endings, all while having a nice reward for having previously beaten the game. That would make me want to go through it again. I highly recommend The Chant to anyone who loves third person, atmospheric games. I preordered it just a few hours before release on a whim, and I'm glad I did. I loved it! ^_^

Its nice to see a studios freshman game turning out pretty solid. Not without its quirks, but i'll definetly be keeping an eye out for brass token in the future. Cool cult premise so far, controls are pretty solid, voice acted well, good graphics, and combat isnt bad either. 8 /10 so far. Will update when finished

Nice graphics, pretty good choices, and its original! Nice to see this genre of gaming is expanding.

I enjoyed this game from start to finish which includes the FREE dlc (a non-greeedy developer is refreshing). Good story, unique setting, easy to learn controls, and good visuals make this a must play for fans of the genre.
