Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York

Built like a dating sim engine minus the dates and save scumming. Good lore but many scenes don't carry knowledge between them. Makes certain choices feel cheap. Each character feels too similar.

•Quick disclaimer: I bought this game at a heavy discount,so I'm predisposed to be more lenient. I started playing VTM as a live-action rpg with character sheets and all the rest of it in the 90's. This game gives me the kind of Camirilla stories I was used to,without the complexity of the PnP version. You can choose 1 of 3 premade characters to play as,although the main plot is the same for them all, there enough differences for me to do a separate playthrough for all 3. If you enjoy VTM, get this game, especially if you find it on sale.

As promised I'm updating my review because the game has been patched. 4 stars because of the buggy release and despite multiple playthroughs the ending when you complete the story is always the same. Choosing your own adventure should have more of an impact on the outcome. That being said, an interesting look into lore and pleasant sounds. Especially appreciated the thunder and rain.

Ive been a vampire storyteller for 20 years this game gets my recommendation. Awesome story, interesting characters, plot twists and most importantly it remains true to the source material. Loved it!

Update: 04/18/20 This product is still broken & needs to be patched up. For example, it's skipping scenes way ahead of where you should be. It also uses the wrong background theme for some of the scenes (taking you out of the location you should be in). I know this because of I have this product for Mac as well and decided to use the exact same play through to discover any inconsistencies (even that port is missing a few of the background themes that should be there such as the tiny room Qadir brings you to after discovering you. On Mac, all you see is the parking lot and for Xbox you get to see the inside of the tiny little room in detail). I will make updates to this review as they make updates to this game. As of now (04/18/20), I do not suggest purchasing this game until it is fixed.
