Call of Cthulhu

I am an avid reader of Lovecraft and a fan of the dark forces he commands in his stories. So I was going to play this game regardless of reviews. That being said the game plays well, and the plot is fun and while being standard fare for a game of this genre. The only thing I'm not wild about is the graphics they are very hit or miss. Enviroments seem well executed, but something about the character models feels off. Like the aim was to do something stylized like Dishonored, but cyanide studios lacked the polish. Regardless I think its worth the detour if you like the works of H.P lovecraft or are pursuant of a more linear experience that you can knock out in a modest amount of time.

Microsoft needs to make Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth backwards compatible. 🤔

I really enjoyed the story and gameplay. I have no complaints there. My complaint is for the achievements. Some of them require collecting/finding all of a thing. But those things are locked behing rng skill checks. So there is no guarantee you will be able to find everything, and it could take many attempts to get good rng. And without a chapter select, thats more play throughs than I'm willing to do. An achievement should be for skill/achievement in a game. Not locked behind tons of rng. Even if you max the skill to find things or pick locks, its still rng to get everything.

The reviews got me very excited for this game and I would like to start by saying that I enjoyed my first playthrough. If you want a SHORT but decent Lovecraftian story, then you should get this for maybe $30 at the most. I felt mislead by other reviewers boasting pen and paper elements, roleplaying and non linear story telling. By the end of the incredibly short game, i was excited to play again to see the differences my choices would make. After a couple hours of choosing every opposite option than before and every line of dialogue resulting exactly the same ruined this game for me. It's saving grace is being a short decent story. Do not expect any more than that. It may as well be an audiobook or short movie. Most of the lower reviews actually make good points. Don't ignore them this time.
