Greak: Memories of Azur is a side scrolling single-player game with hand-drawn animations. You will take the role of three siblings: Greak, Adara and Raydel to guide them through the lands of Azur. Alternate control between them and use their unique abilities to escape from the Urlag invasion.
The gameplay is a fun but not forgiving. Fighting through monsters to cross back and forth across the map will chew you up so fill up your very limited inventory with cooked food. When you get a sibling you get some interesting puzzle options and splitting up during platforming is more interesting and less tedious. All this can be forgiven for a gorgeous world and soundscape and solid gameplay. The ending feels like where you should put in part 2 of a 3 part disc set. Not an ending I would choose, more of what I would consider a neccesary first step. The story is almost vague with no real impact very mystical fairytale by the numbers. The characters get almost no dialogue but still have some character from their small interactions. Get this game for under $10 and save often and pray for a sequel with real plot that doesnt rely so heavily on art and sound.

Not for me
I like sidescrollers and Metroidvania games, but this one's not for me. It's difficult, but I'm also finding the controls to be sluggish when trying to dodge attacks, not a good combo. And when you die you lose all your inventory, if you made progress on something like adding ingredients to a soup mission, ingredients you already added are gone upon death. And if you went thru a bunch of lengthy dialogue to meet people, get quests, etc, if you die you have to do all that again.
It's not a really bad game, I see why people who want a tough challenge like it, and people that don't mind there being sparse checkpoints and thus a lot of re-work on the player's part. But I don't like that, and it doesn't have fun, fluid gameplay to rope me in. If it's going to be really hard then I need fast reflexive controls too. If there was an Easy difficulty option I might have had a different opinion though.
