Othercide

How is this different than XCOM clones? Turn order changing abilities Rogueish start overs are required. Gain "currency" for how you get each run. You earn "perks" randomly during runs to spend the "currency" on. It all carries over each run. Each daughter will earn traits based on how you use them. Each run starts with lvl 1 daughters again. To progress you NEED to earn resurrection token by completing RESCUE missions and then SACRIFICING the saved spirit. Why? You can bring back that lvl 5 daughter at the start of a run where she can progress even more. After certain events you can unlock perks to start with 1+ rez tokens. Earn memories during a run that are used to buff abilities. The ONLY way to HEAL is to SACRIFICE an equal or higher lvl daughter. There are BOSS fights which are often puzzles(which classes and abilities) you need to figure out to beat them. The story, voice acting, and codex are DARK as you fight the SUFFERING, drowning in demented despair...

Update: I owe the band that has their song playing on the main menu an apology for not giving them and the team who decided to use them 👏👏👏. I was never really into turn-based until I played this. For me Othercide is a game you need to experience, my words cant give it justice. Highly recommend, great job!!! Its $9 right now, if you live in Cali you spend that just backing out your driveway. Buy it and then thank the dev team for allowing you to partake in something special.

Original, beautiful art style w Solid game mechanics and a compelling narrative. The gameplay loop is awesome, combining the intensity of a roguelike w the sense of tangible progression of an RPG. Somethin special, without a doubt. Wrote this w a controller, i don't write reviews really. This game just that GOOD

It has a unique visual theme with the dark tones and spooky enemy designs, right up my alley actually, gameplay as well as the visuals. The music and voice acting is great too. I have only one real problem, in later missions to increase difficulty they will spawn endless enemies in to pressure you into quickly finishing escorts. These escorts are the only way to get resurrection tokens, which are needed to ultimately improve/ maintain your strongest fighters. But the time it takes for those mountains of enemies to take their turns is just plain obnoxious. This is WITH faster gameplay enabled. It brings the pacing to screeching stop and is out right annoying. This one problem ruins the game for me entirely alone. I waited 1 minute 56 seconds before. Yes i timed it.

I wasn't sure at first because of it being a rogue like, but it has very unique gameplay that's addictive. There are a couple skill checks in the game, but my biggest advice is don't get attached to daughters and it's ok, encouraged even, to restart a run.
