Chronicles of the Wolf

Hell yeah gimme that classic feeling -vania goodness

Feels like a classic turbo CD, Sega Master System game, Lord of the Sword, Wonder Boy and Monster World type feeling. Even the music sounds like it was lifted right from that era. To sum it up, it's a simple adventure closer to Castlevania 2 Simons Quest than it is Symphony of the Night.

This is a very meaty & very competently made game in the vein of Castlevania. Theres elements of Simon's Quest's exploration, as well as quests, key hunting & tricky platforming of Rondo Of Blood mashed with some of the world, abilities, equipment & story structure of SOTN. Its very much its own unique game but you can see the DNA of those games in this. I love the music, map & art design. Customize the controls before starting & save often especially before crossing suspicious looking rooms.

I have been batting a lot of zeroes with new releases lately so I was kind of already expecting this to be garbage. I could not have been more wrong. This entry in the metroidvania genre manages to capture the fan service while remaining true to its own. Well done 🖐⭐

If you've played SotN then you'll feel right at home playing this. It's challenging to the point where it can be tough but is always fair. The atmosphere and feeling of dread are top notch. Plenty to find and do as well. Took me just about 20 hours to 100% the map and find all the equipment. It's also very well polished as I ran into zero bugs and the game also only crashed once. Two tips: It might be better to use the Dpad as the joystick is a little sensitive and you may find yourself sliding or throwing a sub weapon unintentionally. Also do not push RB during the boss rush mode, otherwise your game will freeze. Very solid game overall and worth the $20.
