Sword of the Vagrant

Sword of the Vagrant is a pleasant surprise of a game. It's definitely influenced by VANILLAWARE school of game design - particularly by Odin Sphere. While the production values of this game isn't on the level of your standard Vanillaware title, it's still looks good for what it is. The visuals are nice, the combat and overall gameplay are competently executed, the character designs are well done, and the narrative is engaging enough. You get a fun, well crafted game for a budget price. The one issue that annoys me is the button mapping doesn't save to your profile, so everytime you boot up the game, you're required to go to the settings to remap the buttons to your liking. This needs to be patched. The devs also need to work on informing me of how much of an item I already own in my inventory, when I purchase stuff from a shop. I recommend this game if you want a fun 2D action dungeon crawler. It's damn good.

Very reminiscent of VanillaWare. If you played Dragons Crown then your in for a treat. Deep Systems and beautiful art. Highly recommend and it's only $10!

If you've ever played and enjoyed Vanillaware games, this one is a no brainer. Especially for only $10. Great artwork, good combat, and lots of busty ladies. Very metroidvania.

Have you ever purchased a supposed "AAA" title for full price, only to be rewarded with a broken buggy mess, I have. Fortunately, with Sword of the Vagrant you get none of that. Only a fun game with a good amount of depth that's only $10. The other reviews nail it. I have 20+ hours in and I have not run into any bugs that negatively impact game play, or detract from the overall experience. Played on Series X. Edit: If you are completely maxed out in weapons, gear, skills and abilities. You will shred bosses so fast that the game can semi-freeze, and the after battle dialogue will not trigger. However, if you just quit out and start up the game again you're good to go. I believe it happened with the HMW, Headless Horseman, and Maximillian II boss battles. It only occurred in those three instances, and with save rooms before each fight, it wasn't too big of an issue.

A shame it wasn't in the Anime Month sale but this game is definitely worth the $9.99! 😁
